The 1955 Rivesaltes had been bottled two weeks previously from a single foudre. It has a mature amber color with a greenish/tawny rim. The nose is a little smudged at first and I am seeking more delineation here. The palate is much better with a lovely spicy opening, cloves and Seville orange marmalade, dried quince, orange zest, black pepper sprinkled generously over the finish that is very persistent and nutty. I just wish that the aromatics were as enthralling as the palate.
