The Château Certan-de-May 2014 has a commendable bouquet, not complex but with satisfying blackberry and raspberry fruit coming through, touches of chalk dust and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with a conservative entry and this continues throughout the wine, rather dry-ish tannins, very linear, nicely composed but missing the joie-de-vivre of some other Pomerol crus, or the charm of say, the Latour-à-Pomerol. It needs to muster something more by the time of bottling given the reputation of this name and the strong performance of past vintages.

Shows a perfumy profile, with rooibos tea, blood orange and warm raspberry coulis notes leading the way. The structure marries a silky and fine-grained wood feel, letting the fruit smolder through the finish.—Tasted non-blind. Score range: 91-94 –JM

„..This is very long with chewy tannins and lots of fruit. Full and juicy with a wonderful length. Lasts a long time. Best in years from here“

„…The 2014 Certan de May is one of the most powerful, tannic wines in the Moueix range. There is more than enough fruit and overall density to fill out the big, broad-shouldered frame. Layers of flavors and textures build as the wine opens up, but today, the Certan de May remains quite imposing. My sense is that it will require considerable aging““
