The 2011 Barolo Unoperuno is an experimental Barolo made from hand-destemmed Arborina fruit. Sweet, perfumed and lifted in the glass, the 2011 is intensely aromatic and silky. Succulent red cherries, spices and wild flowers all grace the palate in a silky Barolo that speaks to finesse. Nebbiolo is very hard to fully destem as the jacks are naturally fragile, the Unoperuno was made from hand destemmed fruit, a painstaking and time-consuming labor of love I have never seen in Piedmont. The two Arborina Barolos are markedly different in 2011, which is deeply thought provoking, to say the least.
Vinous Antinio Galloni 2016 (94 Punkte)
The 2012 Barolo Unoperuno is a selection from Arborina made from hand-destemmed fruit, a long, painstaking process that has a number of implications for the wine. Ripeness levels varied quite a bit from the first fruit that was brought in to the last, while some of the lots saw as much as 13 days on the skins. Deep and powerful, with more intensity than the straight Arborina, the Unoperuno offers striking nuance and plenty of textural depth, all in the finesse style that is typical of the 2012s here. This is a gorgeous showing and superb wine for the year.
